Bimec: Innovations and customizations for the world of converting

Completed the generation change, bimec is now ready to face the challenges of the future in an increasingly competitive and demanding converting market.
We talk about it with davide bottoli, creator, together with his sister elena, of the new course of bimec, that will open the new headquarters by the end of the year

If 2016 will be remembered as a very important year in the history of Bi mec, a leading Italian manufacturer of slitter rewinders, that with its presence at Drupa and K in Düsseldorf celebrated also 45 years of activity, we can define 2017 as the starting point for a new course. Just in our July-August 2016 issue we published an article in which the sons of founder Luciano Bottoli, Elena and Da vi de, telling us the story of the family company, had traced the line to follow in order to lead Bimec in the future. With a wealth of knowledge and, above all, very solid values inherited by father Luciano, Davide Bottoli, in a short time has ma - naged to create a close-knit team ready to meet the needs of flexible packaging converting market, more and more demanding as regards solutions customization, proposing technological innovations of its range of slitter rewinders.

B GENERATION 4 INNOVATION
This is the claim that accompanies corporate communications, to underline the great importance of innovation for the company. The innovation of a product or solution is born in Bimec thanks to a direct and daily exchange of views with customers, allowing the team led by Davide Bottoli to know all the issues of converters, from the simplest to the most complex ones, to study them, and therefore to offer highly specialized solutions for specific materials or market segments. Bimec’s know-how is built on direct onsite ex perimentation with clients, with the intent of emerging with solutions that makes the difference.

FACE TO FACE WITH DAVIDE BOTTOLI
What is the latest innovation you have proposed to the market?
“One of the results of this growth strategy towards technological innovation originated a real revolution in the world of converting: the TF single face slitter rewinder. This solution combines the advantages of a front (with winding and unwinding on the same side), compact machine, coupled with performance and diameter possibilities that are normally obtained on two-fronts machines. Thanks to its unique design, it is possible to unwind mother rolls up to max diameter 870 mm, to rewind finished rolls up to max diameter 600mm and reach a speed of 800 m/min”.

The TF slitter rewinder can be defined as a concentrate of Bimec technologies, because its design offers a mix of two series of slitting machines a l re ady present and consolidated on the mar ket for many years: compactness, simple to use, and ergonomics of the STM50 single face model, and high speed, technical solutions for winding and the rich equipment of TCA series. A innovative design that offers spaces and heights to guarantee results that normally you can obtain with bigger slitting machines and with unwinding carriage on the rear.
Today, the converting market requests handling solutions.

What do you suggest to your customers?
“Moving the finished webs is one of the hot topics in our industry. Bimec offers handling systems with the development of the new system with side unloading model SRB 3D with 3-axis webs handling, inline to our slitter rewinders in the unloading phase. The system is customizable, flexible, and has been delivered for a great order to a German converter. Let’s not forget update and modernization of our winding and unwinding solutions, always up-to-date and with high performance machines, as well as our BDM-L machines, bidirectional for wide bands and dedicated for web inspection”.
Bimec and Industry 4.0
“Already for some years, our machines are equipped with software systems that allow remote diagnostics and remote connection to carry out assistance. Obviously 4.0 is not only teleassistance, but the continuous interchange of information bet ween machines, for this reason we are con centrating to meet the needs of those customers who need to have the interconnection and integration between the slitter rewinder and the logistics system of the factory”.

In September there will be Labelexpo, what do you propose for label converters?
“All our machines can be fitted to process materials of the labels industry, especially the TF model that allows winding up to 600 mm in diameter and 6” cores, size that is requested for bottle labels”.

When do you foresee the inauguration of the new headquarters?
“The move to the new headquarters, a wider and more modern structure, will take place within the next few months and will allow us even more to develop and implement projects and to strengthen the R&D department, which is now somewhat sa cri ficed for lack of space.
We want to create an open factory where our customers can come and experience with us the solutions studied at the table. We have a series of projects in the drawer but for now I can not reveal anything”.
